Abstract

According to Virginia Henderson, eating and drinking are one of life’s activities, and they have the most important role in life immediately after breathing. Without food we can survive for some time, on the condition that water is provided for proper hydration. Providing proper fluid balance in sick children is, therefore, one of the important activities of nursing care. We observe and assess the need for fluid and signs of dehydration. Involving parents in the process of nursing is unavoidable and requires of the nurse a great deal of understanding and empathy. On the other hand, it can pose a challenge in carrying out his/her work.
