EMERGENCY TREATMENT OF NEWBORNS WITH SUSPECTED DUCT DEPENDENT CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE – CLINICAL USE OF THE NEW GUIDELINES

Abstract

In the beginning of 2012, new Slovenian guidelines for the treatment of newborns with suspected duct depend-ent congenital heart disease (DDCHD) requiring treatment with prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) were published (1). In this article, a clinical case of a newborn with DDCHD and measures that were performed according to the new guidelines are presented. DDCHD that require treatment with PGE1 are briey described. Finally, the main innovations in PGE1 treatment and possible treatment side effects are discussed.
