Abstract

We present the case of an adolescent girl who was admitted for an elective orthopaedic procedure but prior to surgery developed signs of purulent meningitis. Due to the rapid course of the disease and serious complications, it is imperative to suspect purulent meningitis because antibiotic treatment must be started as soon as possible.

Key words: meningococcal meningitis, disturbance of consciousness
