Abstract

We present the case of a 9-year-old girl, who was treated in the Outpatient Department of the Dermatology Clinic in Ljubljana due to the sudden appearance of a linear, pale pink rash on the left lower limb two weeks previously. Before the onset of the rash, the girl had had a cold. Based on the clinical features, we diagnosed lichen striatus. The diagnosis was clear clinically, so no further investigations, such as skin biopsy, were needed. Making the correct diagnosis on the basis of the clinical picture is important because unnecessary diagnostic tests can then be avoided. It is also important to reassure and inform the children and their parents about the disease, its benign nature and its spontaneous regression without treatment.
